Members of the PacBio team will be heading down to Albuquerque this weekend for the annual conference of the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities (ABRF). It’s a big year for the association, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and we’re looking forward to participating. ABRF is a meeting where we connect with the most innovative leaders of the core facility community.
As PacBio blog readers know, core labs are very important in the SMRT® Sequencing landscape. Last year we launched our directory of service providers that offer sequencing with the PacBio® platform, and many scientists have told us how useful that information has been for their genome-sequencing projects. We’ve also profiled some of these service providers to find out how they get the best performance out of their PacBio sequencers and turn that into top-notch service for their customers. Take a look:
• DNA Link
• Institute for Genome Sciences at the University of Maryland
• McGill University and Genome Quebec Innovation Centre
At ABRF this year, our own senior scientist Brett Bowman will give a talk titled “Advances in Long-read Sequencing Technology for Metagenomics “ on Tuesday, March 25, in the metagenomics session (2:30-4:00 p.m., “Metagenomics: Methods, Protocols, and Challenges”) chaired by Scott Tighe from the University of Vermont.
We will also have two posters at the event. “SMRT® Sequencing Solutions for Large Genomes and Transcriptomes” (#44) from Jenny Gu et al. offers an overview of projects and best practices for sequencing with the PacBio instrument. Roberto Lleras et al. presents “A Novel Analytical Pipeline for de novo Haplotype Phasing and Amplicon Analysis using SMRT Sequencing Technology” (#51), which highlights alternatives to whole-genome sequencing with examples of targeted application analysis for long amplicons to investigate complex gene structures and obtain haplotype phase information.
Hope to see you in Albuquerque!
