Mark Van Oene

Mark is the Chief Operating Officer at PacBio, where he oversees our research, development, quality and manufacturing divisions, while also spearheading our strategic planning and corporate development initiatives.

Before joining PacBio, Mark held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Illumina, Inc. During his tenure there, he played a pivotal role in shaping and executing Illumina’s commercial strategy, leading to over $3 billion in annual revenue and managing approximately 1,800 commercial employees globally. Mark’s journey at Illumina began in 2006 as a regional account manager, demonstrating remarkable progression as he assumed various senior leadership roles within the commercial organization. His contributions were instrumental in expanding the company’s global commercial footprint and fostering substantial revenue growth year after year.

Prior to his tenure at Illumina, Mark served as the Director of Genotyping Services at Ellipsis Biotherapeutics.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Western University and was a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto in Molecular and Medical Genetics, focusing his research on Cystic Fibrosis at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
